But enough about you . . . .

by Kel Morin Parsons

Well, here I am, back on this wonderful blog, after a bit of a hiatus filled with theatre, and . . . uh, well, theatre. I was blessed to have done a lot of acting this past year, and am now blessed to have a break. A break that will be spent writing and doing short films. Um. Well, a change is as good as a rest, correct?

Because I am the difficult child of this blog, rather than writing this time 'round about a film or a book, I will be writing about, well, ME. On the theme of, well, ME, and MY FABULOUSNESS, I thought that I would review here some of the things that I do and how I am planning to frame them in the near future. I do this, of course, to bless you with the gift of ME, the very thought of which I know must brighten the days of all readers of this blog, but also to get your feedback on all the different things you do, and how you communicate them to a world in desperate need of more YOU!

Hehe. Me funny.

Seriously, though, kids. I realized awhile ago that I needed to join this “internet age”, in which all you young folks have “blogs” and “websites” and “home-made pornos”. Except that I’m really hesitant about that last category. I’m 41, and I’m pretty sure no-one wants to see that crap, you know? Also, I’d have to find someone willing to star with me. So you see the challenges. But anyway.

So I’ve had a website designed for me, and have only to write up the text for it (which, as I’ve been so busy acting, I haven’t yet had time to do). On it, I plan to feature some photos of moi (natch); my acting CV and news on upcoming projects; examples of my writing (articles I’ve done for various publications); clips from short films I plan to make, kamikaze-style, with my own little camera; and anything related of interest. I’ll also have a link to another website, one for my editing business. It will be a bit omnium-gatherum in nature, but I see an increasing trend toward this sort of thing in less-specialised sites that I tend to think of as “life sites”.

Now, whether anyone will show the slightest interest in this site, I have no idea. And that’s another thing I’d really love to hear about. How do you promote the things that promote you? Do you link up sites and blogs and Facebook and Twitter? Tell me everything, dahhhlings. Please.

  1. Hi Kel - well I think the idea is to make sure people visit your site so promoting it on FB and twitter and blogging about it is a must right? :D But you have to give people a reason to go there - contests, new articles, etc... so that helps as well. Good luck with your new site - let us know when it's up.

  2. Kel - I've built up a steady readership for my blog by visiting other people's blogs, leaving comments, and generally building online relationships. This does take a certain amount of time, but there is no other way of establishing yourself in the blogosphere. It does pay off in the end, but you will have to judge how much time you want to spend visiting blogs or tweeting. A little bit every day will go a long way.

  3. Like Julia, I feel that the more you reach out, the more others reach back. Personally, I know that when people visit my blog and leave a comment, I'll make a point of visiting theirs as well.

When I do leave a comment, I add my blog address after my name. Sometimes even people leaving comments will pop over. After all, I've done the same thing!

Twitter yes, but it takes so much time and the last couple of weeks I've been absent. Facebook, I do check into and often will jump to people's blogs or websites when they add a pertinent announcement.

    Good luck with your website!
