Authors Get Same Attention As Actors
by Kellyann Zuzulo
"Look at me! Look at me!" It's a pose you strike if you want an audience. Actors know it very well. They strut their stuff and smile for the camera. They also have a comprehensive directory that caters to actors called the IMDb. It claims to be "the world's most popular and authoritative source for movies, TV, and celebrity content." That's fine if you've had a turn on the red carpet. But what if you're a writer. There's certainly no shortage of outlets on the internet to list your name...maybe the title of a book you wrote. Mostly, you'll find that you do a lot of writing of listings that gets you nowhere.
If you want to make those flashbulbs pop, you need something like the IMDb, but for authors. And that's exactly what AUTHORSdB claims to be.
AUTHORSdB says it's:
"...the only database of authors, including social media, book listings and much more, for today's mind-field of thousands of aspiring and established writers. We are a dedicated website that helps authors for free. Why free? We have a few Angels who simply want to see authors flourish. Readers no longer have to google from several different websites to find out more about a particular author – it’s all here."
AUTHORSdB currently has over 2,300 registered users. The idea behind the free directory is that traffic is generated by a co-dependent network of users as well as Google indexing. AdB encourages users to share information about the website. They themselves will tweet new users or post links back to their Facebook page. They admit that they can't list everyone because of the overwhelming number of new users. But that's not actually a bad thing. It means that you have increased potential exposure with each new addition.
It's not a lot of work to list yourself. It's free. It may not take off the way IMdB has...but it may. And did I mention it's free. Now get out there on the red carpet.
