You hang around with a bunch of western romance authors long enough and you not only pick up the lingo, you start thinking of every project in terms of round-ups and cattle drives. It's as inevitable as a fedora and bad Bogey accent when you hang out with the classic noir crowd.

So, when I joined fourteen other authors on the trail to publishing an anthology of western romance shorts stories, I knew what to expect.

You start out in fair weather of course, covering familiar trails. Our group weren't greenhorns after all. Some of us were downright salty. But, it's the nature of the beast that dust is going to get kicked up especially on those brave souls that ride drag. Delays, storms and unexpected obstacles fray everyone's temper, but at the end of the day we know we all depend on each other to get to our destination.

As I quipped one day, "We're seeing the Rawhide, now we just have to get to the Roses."

Now, I want you to picture this: fifteen authors riding into town, driving thousands of words ahead of them. (A few had to be cut from the herd in the editorial process, of course.) The authors are covered in dust, sweat and maybe a few blood stains from wrangling fifteen stories, artwork, introductions and dedications. The music swells and you hear whoops and hollers as our destination nears.
