If You Could Only Have Three TV Networks, What Would They Be?

Today we are thrilled to welcome New York Times and USA Today best selling author Susan Mallery to popculturedivas!

Susan's new release CHASING PERFECT was released last week and judging from her track record it's sure to be a hit! Susan has written more than 100 romance and women's fiction novels. GULP! She has won many awards, including the prestigious National Reader’s Choice Award. Susan's books have been named to the Top 10 Romance Novels lists of 2007, 2008, and 2009 by Booklist, a publication of the American Library Association, and she was the only author on the list all three years. Oh, by the way Susan also has a Masters in Writing Popular Fiction. Smarty pants! ;)

I have a dirty little secret: I don’t like TV that’s good for me. I don’t mind learning something from a TV show, but I don’t seek it out. I really just want to be entertained. Morning news shows are great because they flit from topic to topic, giving you just enough news to make you feel like a good citizen, and then sprinkling in fun stuff for dessert. Same thing with Oprah. (Ellen’s show is all dessert, so I love her best of all!)

I just finished a book tour to promote CHASING PERFECT, the first book of my new series, Fool’s Gold romances. My hotels were very nice but, like all hotels, they didn’t provide as many TV stations as I get at home. Not that I had much time in the hotel, anyway—I hit the ground running first thing in the morning and didn’t get back until late in the evening. So much fun!

The hotel TVs started me thinking about which networks I wouldn’t want to live without. I thought this would be a fun game to play today at popculturedivas. If you could only have three TV networks, which ones would you choose? (For the sake of this game, let’s pretend that you can’t watch streaming TV on the computer, and you can’t get DVDs of your favorite TV shows.)

Susan Mallery’s Top Three TV Networks:

1.    Lifetime
Project Runway alone might be enough to make me choose Lifetime. I love that show so much that I created a character who was an aspiring fashion designer just to live out my Project Runway fantasies. (Megan in Sunset Bay, my first women’s fiction.) Now they’ve got Models of the Runway, too – so viewers get to gossip about the pretty, bitchy women. Love it!

But of course, I also love the movies. How great would it be if they wanted to turn one of my books into a Lifetime movie?! Or they could create a lighthearted, romantic TV series based on Fool’s Gold, the town with the man shortage. (Any producers out there? Take a look at www.foolsgoldca.com to learn more about this fabulous wine country town. This series would appeal to fans of The Gilmore Girls… and there are a lot of us!)

2.    HGTV
Hello – House Hunters? Who can resist that? Every episode is a complete story. A beginning, a middle… always some suspense, and always a happy ending! And House Hunters International teaches you a little bit about the world, too, so it’s delicious and nutritious. Plus, they give away the Dream Home every year. I’m still a little bitter that I haven’t won yet, but I’ll forgive them when they hand over the keys next year.

3.    ABC
Yes, for my third choice, I’m sticking with one of the Big Three. Surprised even myself. But when I stopped to think about it, I realized how many shows I love are on ABC. Castle with the yummy Nathan Fillion, Modern Family, Dancing with the Stars, Desperate Housewives, Good Morning America… I could go on and on, but you might start to judge me for watching wayyyyy too much TV.

Those are my three. I will miss Bravo, but I did say only three. Sigh.
