McDreamy + Hugh Jackman = Romance Hero (At least for this Gal)!

By Vanessa Kelly

Today it’s all about me! Or, should I say, all about my latest book release from Kensington Zebra. MY FAVORITE COUNTESS, a Regency-set historical romance, is in stores and available on-line today.

Even though my book is a historical romance, some elements of MY FAVORITE COUNTESS were influenced by pop culture. My hero, you see, is a doctor, always a popular figure in TV shows and movies. In fact, he might even remind you a bit of a certain character who appears in Grey’s Anatomy.

Yes, that’s Dr. McDreamy, and I did partly base my hero, Dr. John Blackmore, on the character of Derek Shepherd. Okay, I also threw in a touch of Hugh Jackman to up the alpha male quotient, but that’s never a bad thing, is it?

Doctors have been a bit of trend in historical romances lately, with Eloisa James’ latest novel WHEN BEAUTY TAMED THE BEAST featuring a doctor who bears more than a passing resemblance to the irascible but strangely lovable Dr. House.

And Jo Goodman’s latest book, MARRY ME, has a doctor hero who’s tough enough to survive the challenges of the American West and a heroine who rides and shoots better than he does.

But of course my hero has a few other activities besides just tending to his patients. MY FAVORITE COUNTESS is a romance, after all, so John is also a lover and a passionate one at that. Paired with my heroine, the strong-willed Bathsheba, he provides a lot of sizzle and a lot of reading fun! And isn’t that what being a romance hero is all about?

MY FAVORITE COUNTESS:

She is difficult, demanding, and at times, quite fierce. And Dr. John Blackmore can’t take his eyes off her. The Countess of Randolph is the most striking woman he has ever seen...and the most infuriating patient he has ever tended.

Mired in responsibility, Bathsheba doesn’t have time to convalesce in the country. She should be in London, hunting for a wealthy new lover to pay off her late husband’s vast debts, not dallying with a devastatingly handsome doctor.

But it is only a matter of time until the good doctor and the obstinate countess will have to contend with the sparks that fly between them. Once their bodies surrender, their hearts may follow...

Vanessa Kelly writes Regency-set historical romance for Kensington Zebra. She spends most of the year in Ottawa, Canada, but is fortunate enough to escape to Florida for some of the winter. Vanessa firmly believes she has the best of both worlds. You can visit her on the web.
