New Shows I've Been Checking Out by Lucy Felthouse
There's some seriously good TV around just now. Though a few of my favourite programmes have now aired their last episodes of the season. So it's just as well that I've been latching on to some new stuff. Bear in mind I'm in the UK, so we get some shows weeks, if not months behind the US. Here are a few new shows I've been watching:
Arrow
Yeah, okay, the last episode of season one just aired over here, but it's still kinda new. I've been enjoying it very much (even without the eye candy it's a good show), the drama, the romance, the secrets... and there have been a fair few cliffhangers at the end of episodes... and of course, the season. I'm also hoping that at some point we'll find out how Oliver got off that damn island! I'll definitely be continuing to watch this when the next season comes out. I wasn't sure how they were going to extend the storyline for another season (and probably beyond), but now we know... Hopefully Oliver will smile more. Oh, and get with Felicity.
Da Vinci's Demons
I wasn't entirely sure what this was going to be like when I saw it advertised, but I have to say I'm hooked. The storyline is unusual, but what makes this show great, in my opinion, is the guy that plays Da Vinci, Tom Riley. He plays a tormented genius to perfection, elevating himself above his contemporaries, but somehow without coming across as arrogant. So far, I'm finding it a good fun show and suspect it's only going to get darker... though I did have a few nits to pick when Vlad the Impaler appeared... I'll be continuing to watch this and see how it goes.
Hannibal
I am a wimp, I admit it. I hate horror films and I don't like watching things too gross as it makes me heave and hide behind cushions. However, I have seen all the Hannibal Lecter films and even read the books - admittedly, only in broad daylight. So I was intrigued when I saw this advertised. So far, I've only seen one episode, but think Hugh Dancy is doing a great job of playing Will Graham, though I'm desperately missing the posh British accent. Mads Mikkelsen is suitably creepy, though at times he mumbles so much I'm tempted to turn on subtitles. I just hope he doesn't mumble something vital to understanding the rest of the show. So far I've only heaved once, which isn't bad for me, but then I suppose, they haven't shown anything too gross yet. Watch this space to see whether I brave any more episodes...
